Illinois mayor DISAPPEARS after investigation reveals her excessive spending

The mayor of a village in Illinois has reportedly disappeared following a probe that revealed her excessive spending.

According to ZeroHedge, Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard could not be located after an investigation uncovered her "out of control" credit card spending. In one instance, she reportedly spent $40,000 on Amazon purchases in just one day. Earlier this year, Henyard shelled out $7,650 on hair and makeup after taking office – and proceeded to bill the city for it.

In March, Henyard – dubbed America's Worst Mayor – vetoed calls for an investigation into herself. The vetoes were overturned in April, with village trustees voting that month in favor of appointing former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to lead the investigation.

Lightfoot, a former assistant U.S. attorney, lost her reelection bid last year, with incumbent Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson succeeding her. Lightfoot landed the $400 per hour job of probing Henyard, who was accused of mishandling funds.

Henyard and two village trustees were absent during the April community meeting, prompting the four trustees present to assign the former Chicago mayor to the task. According to CBS News, trustees wanted Lightfoot to address concerns about excessive spending – including taxpayer-funded billboards, ads, lavish dinners and trips.

The former mayor soon uncovered further questionable spending, including out-of-control credit card use with few receipts provided. "These are somebody using one of the credit cards. The village has been unable to pay all of its monthly expenditures with its available cash balance," Lightfoot told CBS News.

Aside from the wanton spending, Henyard is also under investigation for police overtime. Two officers of the Dolton Police Department (DPD) racked up six-digit overtime pay last year, which far exceeded their base pay.

The first DPD officer earned $108,000 in overtime pay in fiscal year (FY) 2023 and $114,000 in FY 2024. The second DPD officer received $87,000 in FY 2023 and $102,000 in FY 2024.

Henyard thinks she's a reality TV star, not a public official

In February, Dolton Trustee Brittney Norwood said she and her fellow village trustees were denied access to bank statements.

"The last time I received the [village's] bank statement was in September of last year, and we were $7 million in debt at [the] time," Norwood disclosed to CBS News. "So at this current moment, we're saying, 'Hey, where are the bank statements? So we can know where we are.'"

"It seems [Henyard's] aspirations and goals are for her to be a reality star. She didn't [previously] wear all that makeup. She just now thinks she's this reality star," one community member who has known the Dolton mayor for 15 years told the New York Post. "I don't know this for sure, but they say she is filming a reality show because the cameras are always with her. I've never seen anything like this in my life, and I have been involved in the political arena ever since I was 18."

While the long arm of the law has yet to reach Henyard, it has picked out one of her close allies. The Chicago Tribune reported that DPD Deputy Chief Lewis Lacey was indicted on nine counts on Aug. 12. Lacey, 61, was charged with perjury, bankruptcy fraud and making false statements and declarations in a bankruptcy case.

Gal Pissetzky, legal counsel for Lacey, slammed the charges as a result of a "witch hunt" aimed at Henyard. The lawyer praised his client for being "an excellent police officer" and an "upstanding" deputy chief of police. "This is a witch hunt where they are taking down Lacey to try to get to the mayor," Pissetzky stressed.
