The fruits of Nancy Pelosi’s labor are apparently paying off, as Biden’s apparent determination to stay in the race has subsided, and he’s entertaining the idea of dropping out. Though a case of Covid may prevent an official announcement, the past few weeks of discussion about the state of the Democratic ballot for 2024 are reaching a head, and the consensus forced around Biden in 2020 and maintained by the party establishment until now has started to crumble. In this week’s episode, we talk to someone who’s definitely running in 2024 — libertarian candidate Chase Oliver — and get his sense of what the race will look like. Watch below:

Compared to the tired, infuriating binary of Biden-Trump, Chase Oliver has his pitch ready: “I’m under the age of 80, I speak in complete sentences, I’m not a convicted felon.” Indeed, Oliver’s age, opposition to two-party politics, anti-war political commitments, and more make him, for many voters, a viable alternative to Biden-Trump. Browse his website and you’ll see that he’s eager to work with states to decriminalize abortion, but also supports the Hyde Amendment, banning public funding from being used for abortions. In other words, his platform encompasses a number of positions traditionally associated with left and right, informed by his support for personal freedoms and wariness toward a controlling government.
