Biden’s make-or-break moment

President Joe Biden’s highly-anticipated press conference last night came at a pivotal time for the presumptive Democratic nominee.

It was the president’s first live press conference since his disastrous debate in June, and a make-or-break moment for Biden, who’s been facing calls to drop out of the presidential race.

With global attention turned to the president, all eyes were on his speech. And the night started with a stumble.

During a NATO summit ahead of his press conference, Biden mistakenly introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian President Vladimir Putin. He quickly caught and corrected the mistake.

Biden’s press conference was also marked by other mix-ups, including, at one point, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”

The good news for Biden was that the news conference set him up in his wheelhouse: foreign policy. Pundits and journalists later agreed that he showed a command of the issues. But his flubs, though minor, were hard to ignore under such intense scrutiny.

Still, Biden refused to back down, saying he is the best and most qualified candidate to take on former president Donald Trump.

“I’ve got to finish this job,” Biden said. “I’ve got to finish this job. Because there’s so much at stake.”
