We received the devastating news three weeks ago that we were being de-banked after 14 years as a result of the cyberattack against our eCheck donation and payment system. Since we have been blocked from ordinary credit card processing due to our views, this was the only way we were able to accept online payments directly through the Counter-Currents site.
The good news for the whole movement is that deplaforming isn’t what it used to be. Five years ago, when we were put on the MATCH list — a blacklist for credit card companies — due to our views, we had no other options: just paper checks, money orders, and cash in the mail. Over time, however, allies and friends built systems such as eChecks, alternative processing sites such as Entropy, and now, banks that respect freedom of speech. The people who stuck around and adapted after the round of intense deplatforming that followed Charlottesville are serious and talented. We will outlast our detractors.
It took three weeks, but we are now up and running again.
The bad news is that all of these processes are brand new. Every deplatforming is a learning experience. As a result of our latest deplatforming, our eCheck system was not able to retain a lot of our existing recurring donations, such as paywall subscriptions.
If you are a Paywall Subscriber or intend to give monthly via eCheck, you will need to initiate a new donation to restart your monthly gifts. You can do so by filling out the eCheck form, or you can give us a call at the office at + 1 (415) 649-0150 between 9 AM and 5 PM EST to reinstate your donation over the phone.
If you are thinking about donating to Counter-Currents in the near future, please do so now. We have lost three weeks of income due to this deplatforming, and we need to catch up.
In addition to the consistent webzine articles and podcasts, here are just a few of the things you’re supporting with your gifts this year:
