15 people have been killed and 24 were seriously injured after a gunman opened fire at a Prague university Thursday, BBC reports.

It took place at Charles University's arts faculty. The building was evacuated after staff were initially ordered to "stay put," turn off the lights, and barricade themselves in a lockdown.

Czech police say the gunman, now identified as David Kozak, has been "eliminated."

Police president reported that the 24-year-old was a student at the university where his "lifeless body" was found after the attack. His father was also found dead earlier in the day. The president added that the shooter had been inspired by similar massacres that have taken place in other countries around the world.

Vit Rakusan, the Czech minister of the interior, told reporters the shooting is not linked to international terrorism.

This has been reported as the "worst deadly shooting in modern Czech history" since Czech independence 30 years ago, according to BBC news reporter Paul Kirby.
