Lothrop Stoddard, whose 140th birthday is today, was a great gentlemen of science and culture who wrote a dozen and a half books over his life displaying a breadth of understanding of history, culture, and science from the perspective of one who believed that the white people of the world were special and worth preserving against the “rising tide of color.” It was a loss for the world that his biological anthropological worldview lost foothold against that of the likes of Franz Boas and his ilk, which directly contributed towards the modern conceptions that race and gender are merely a matter of whim or fancy.
