‘A Lebanese newspaper says an arrested figure of the al-Qaeda-linked Abdullah Azzam Brigades has confessed that the extremist group aims to ignite sectarian conflict in Lebanon.


Naim Abbas said Takfiris carried out bombing attacks with the aim of provoking the Shia resistance movement Hezbollah and enraging the Sunni community to react.


Abbas also stated that such a scenario would push Sunni religious figures and politicians to rise against Hezbollah.


He added that after the first bombings failed to provoke a hasty reaction from Hezbollah, the group decided to expand the area of suicide attacks after discussing the matter with the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorist group.’
