Turkish lawmakers pass judiciary bill amid scuffles

‘Turkey’s parliament has passed a controversial bill giving the government more control over the Judiciary.


Violent scuffles erupted at the assembly on Saturday between the ruling party and opposition lawmakers as the legislation was being debated.


Ali Ihsan Kokturk, MP from the opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), got a bloodied nose while ruling party lawmaker, Bayram Ozcelik’s finger was broken in the brawl.


The bill was passed with 210 votes in favor and 28 against despite outcries from opposition parties and the international community.’
